No Devolución.
Those of you that know me will know I am a pretty big fan of the band Thursday. Well, they put out a new album today. It is called No Devolución, and it is quite good actually. Pounding drums and beautiful, soaring synths drive this album, far more post-rock than their previous post-hardcore albums, it is a consistently fantastic soundscape, with each track having a sound that is both very clearly part of the album and able to stand by itself.
I have only listened to it once through at the time of writing but already the ideas of dedication and devotion that the album is intended to convey are clear (it’s interesting that such a departure from their usual sound is accompanied by the theme of devotion), every track has it’s stand out moments.
Some of my favourites are the devastating, driven drums of “A Gun In The First Act”, the shocking minimalism and intimacy of “Empty Glass”, the jarring start of album-opener “Fast To The End” and the closing crecsendo that is “Stay True” which acts as the perfect climax to the album. Prior to it’s release the band had been saying about what a change they have made from their original sound and how they were unsure that all fans would love this album, but I genuinely think that this is one of those records that I will be coming back to time and again, and like Full Collapse, will always benefit from being played all the way through.
I have tickets to see Thursday in a weeks time, 19/4 to be precise and I am even more excited for it than I was before the release of new record. It will be a gig to remember I feel.
